2005 - 78m.

Jim Wynorski should be called the Baron of Breasts. His fetish for mammaries is beginning to rival that of Russ Meyer and I only wish that he would make movies as entertaining as those of dear old Russ. Wynorski has made some fun flicks over the years but this one is just a series of strung together sex scenes with the usual erotic thriller plotline that we have seen a million times over. That being said, the sex scenes are a little livelier than other recent films in the softcore genre but if you are looking for an entertaining movie, this is not the one to take home.

Glori-Anne Gilbert and her boobs star as twin sisters Susan (blonde) and Jenny (brunette). Susan is killed fairly quickly after a lively romp in a hot tub and it is up to her husband Rick (unlikely softcore star Frank Harper) and sister Jenny to find the killer with the help of a cop (b-movie staple Jay Richardson). There are a number of suspects to sift through as Rick is a serial cheater with women he has met on the Internet. This, of course, leads us to a parade of flashbacks showing all the sex he had while he was married to his dearly departed. These trysts include Monique Parent in the woods, Julie K. Smith on the couch, and porn star Jodie Smith in a weight room. There is also a scene with porn star Chasey Lain in the kitchen where she looks like she really doesn't want to be there. The sexiest scenes are with Holly Hollywood in a hotel room and also with Avy Scott in an upstairs bedroom trying to be quiet while the wife is downstairs. Gilbert keeps busy with two other scenes in addition to the opening hot tub sequence. Considering this was shot in three days, actor Harper must have been a pretty happy camper while filming this flick!

The plot manages to carry itself through the film but let's be honest, people are not renting this for the artistic value. For what it is, Wynorski (as H.R. Blueberry) does a good job keeping things interesting but Richardson is what holds the plot together as he is one of the better actors in the genre. Harper and Gilbert adequately deliver their lines when not bumping uglies but there is not a lot to work with here. I will say that I did like this movie better than many of the movies that Seduction Cinema puts out. This is likely due to the fact that Wynorski is a pro when it comes to this type of thing and he naturally retains some of the style that he built a name on.

If you are looking for a softcore flick with lots of sex, this is a good pick but if you want more substance, you should rent something else. It is nice to see that Wynorski still enjoys what he is doing but it feels more like he is trying to make a quick buck rather than have a legacy down the road like Meyer. Wynorski's sometimes collaborator Fred Olen Ray has suffered the same fate in recent years. I don't know if they have just become cynical with the industry and don't care anymore or if the landscape of erotic thrillers has changed so much with the graphic nudity that it is too difficult to market creative yet titillating movies like those that dominated video stores in the early 90's. I know that if Wynorski focused a little more on substance rather than cranking these out as fast as possible, he may still have a few more b-movies in him that will be looked at with the same nostalgic regard as Chopping Mall and Hard to Die. Let's hope so. (Josh Pasnak, 7/25/09)

DVD INFORMATION
Seduction Cinema - February 21, 2006

Picture Ratio: 1.78:1 Widescreen.

Picture Quality: Looks decent enough for a direct to video cheapie.

Extras: First up, we get a commentary featuring Gilbert and Wynorski (as H.R. Blueberry). I wasn't expecting much but I forgot that Wynorski is entertaining on commentaries and also quite candid. Although this is not as good as some of his other commentaries, we still get some insight into behind the scenes drama such as Julie K. Smith's attitude and Chasey Lain's preparation time. Next, we get a 65-minute bonus feature film entitled Night Vamps. This movie features Gilbert in a wraparound segment introucing three women in solo tease scenes. This is not a real movie but is strictly poor quality whack-off material for those of you who enjoy this sort of thing. I would liken it to a grindhouse stag reel that was filmed in the 90's. Next up, we get an actual grindhouse stag reel entitled "Brunette on a Couch" that features a brunette stripping on a couch. Finally, we get the usual set of trailers from both Seduction and Retro-Seduction Cinema.
