2002 - 78m.

Another urban horror flick from Full Moon's off-shoot label Big City Pictures and the first effort from director Danny Draven's Darkwave Pictures (who take the reigns Tempe left behind after leaving their working relationship with Full Moon).

This is a tongue-in-cheek effort that reminds one of 1986's Vamp as three wannabe rappers with funny names (played by Choice Skinner, Rick Irvin and Dennis Waller Jr.) are pulled into a world of "hottie" vampires when they are lured to the underground strip club "Cryptz" to become tasty morsels for a group of female vamps. Turns out leader Tymez Skwair (Skinner) has a tattoo that's supposed to give power over the undead (this is barely explained) which our vampire babes want - too bad the guys buff friend Truck (an engaging Chyna - who's character is like a low-scale Blade minus the weapons) is here to kick fanged-ass.

As with Draven's past efforts this is certainly a competently made little low-budgeter but I think the main problem here is the familiarity of it all; it just feels too cobbled together from other movies and though we can appreciate the characters clowning around there's too much of it and all it does is detract from any attempts at horror.

Generally this is passable but it's directed well, has fairly good acting and some okay gore on hand.

Order it from Tempe Video or Darkwave's site.

DVD INFORMATION

Picture Ratio: 1:85:1 Widescreen.

Picture Quality: The picture here is quite decent though at times it looks a little too soft and blurry. Overall though it's not bad.

Extras: As a bonus feature we get Ted Nicolaou's 1999 Full Moon effort Ragdoll with its own set of extras. We also get a trailer for Cryptz and a decent twenty minute "Behind-The-Scenes" featurette that offers up some fairly interesting info.
